UK, 03-Oct-2012 / British Cardiovascular Society,

Today Boris Johnson, the London Mayor, has announced that the European Society of Cardiology will hold its Annual Congress in August 2015 at London’s ExCeL centre. The 2015 ESC Congress will run from 29th August to 2nd September 2013. The ESC Congress of 2012 held in Munich, Germany, attracted over 35,000 delegates and it is expected that this number will be exceeded in 2015. The ESC Congress is the world’s largest cardiology meeting and it is expected that the Congress will bring in £80m in economic benefit to London.

Quote from Boris Johnson: “It is fantastic news that this eminent international society has chosen our great city. London has an impressive track record in hosting international conventions with excellent facilities and so much for delegates to see and do during their stay. Not only this, but these events bring investment and support jobs. Having shown our city off to the world this summer, I am sure we will see many more great institutions like the ESC making London the congress host city of choice.”

Quote from Dr Iain Simpson, President of the British Cardiovascular Society: “The ESC Congress is now the largest cardiology meeting in the world and it is a fantastic achievement to attract it to the ExCeL venue in London. The latest research and innovations in heart disease will be presented there and the British Cardiovascular Society will be collaborating to ensure it’s as successful for cardiology as London was for the Olympics.”

The BCS is delighted to be holding its 2013 Annual Conference at the ExCeL centre from 3rd to 5th June. This will be the second time that the BCS has held its Annual Conference in the ExCeL centre. Our Annual Conference is the UK’s largest event for those working in Cardiovascular Medicine, with over 2500 delegates and 80 companies attending over the 3 days.

The programme in 2013 will include BCS named lectures; ESC sessions; tracks on Basic Science, Clinical Science/Translational Research, Education for Revalidation, Imaging and Linked Days with BCS Affiliated Groups. Alongside our packed Conference programme, we will have an Education Hall with a dedicated programme of educational presentations and activities (including simulators and sports science sessions).

2013 looks set to be a great Annual Conference for BCS and we are looking forward to returning to ExCeL, London.
